The Local Organizing Committee together with a Scientific Board comprised of leading experts in the HUPO community will put together a scientific program out of the ordinary. The theme ‘Clinical Proteomics for the Benefit of Patients’ brings together biopharma and biotech drug developments, for the first time involving Pharma Industry in one of the foremost arenas for the advancement of life sciences – a natural next step considering that knowledge derived from proteomics research is playing an increasingly important role in drug development. Clinical proteomics will thus be the theme of the 19th HUPO World Congress with dedicated sections within systems biology, as well as disease areas such as; oncology, cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and infection/immunology. This is an area of mandatory importance and tremendous potential in the quest for new directions in treatments, early indication of disease, as well as biomarkers and diagnostics that can aid in selecting optimal drug choice and use for patient benefit.
Tech & Knowledge Hub
Not only a city of spectacular beauty and the home of the Nobel Prize, Stockholm and its environments boast one of Europe’s largest life science clusters. Throughout the years, the region has furthermore nurtured a substantial number of cutting edge research projects, innovative biotechs and internationally renowned pharma companies.
Strength For Future Research
The Swedish government is currently making significant investments to further strengthen Sweden's role as one of the leading countries for research and innovation. Research and development spending is increasing while health and life sciences are highlighted as priority societal challenges. Special efforts are also being made on the register based research, a profile area where Sweden has major competitive advantages by virtue of a longstanding tradition of high-quality registers and personal identity numbers. In this context, proteomics has an enormous potential.
Since 2010, Stockholm is the home of Science for Life Laboratory, SciLifeLab, a world-class center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. Researchers at SciLifeLab play a vital role in the ambitious effort to map the entire human proteome, conducting large-scale experiments where large amounts of biobank samples are analyzed utilizing technologically advanced equipment. Here in this major hub for biomedical research and development, that the Swedish Proteomics Society, SPS, has worked to develop a natural meeting place for professionals in the pharmaceutical area. The Swedish Pharmaceutical Society wishes to welcome the HUPO 2020 World Congress. With a strong clinical proteomics expert program focusing on the treatment of patients, the 2020 HUPO World Congress in Stockholm will contribute significantly to the Human Proteome Project.
